The Apprentice15

Directed by Ali Abbasi | USA | 2023 | 2h 2m | Starring Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong, Maria Bakalova, Martin Donovan, Catherine McNally

In 1970s New York, a young Donald Trump falls under the influence of ruthless lawyer Roy Cohn. Cohn recognises Trump as the ideal protégé—driven by ambition, an insatiable desire for success, and a readiness to do whatever it takes to come out on top. Starring Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong (Succession), director Ali Abbasi weaves a darkly comedic story of greed, power, and the ruthless pursuit of success in the shadowy heart of the American empire.

Reviews

‘A smart, tragic take on just how dark the American Dream can be, with award-worthy work from Stan and Strong.’
★★★★
Olly Richards, Empire Magazine

‘The two leads sell the odd-couple bromance. Strong has arguably the slightly easier task as the less familiar face, but he’s fantastic with it… And Stan grows increasingly commanding as the film goes on.’
★★★★
Philip De Semlyen, Time Out
