Sense And SensibilityU
After their father’s sudden death, sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are left with no inheritance and forced to move to a modest cottage in the English countryside. As they adjust to their new life, the sisters navigate heartbreak, societal expectations, and the search for love. Directed with elegance by Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain) and adapted by Emma Thompson in an Oscar-winning screenplay, this Jane Austen classic is brought to life with deft wit and a subtly powerful feminist perspective.
Our screening on Sunday 17th August will be introduced by Thomas Robertson (English Faculty, University of Oxford), and our screening on Wednesday 20th August will be introduced by Dr Chloe Fairbanks (Lecturer in English, University of Oxford).

‘Ang Lee’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s first novel respects the timeless material while bringing a contemporary energy and humour to the tale.’

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
