Piggy18

Directed by Carlota Pereda | Spain | 2022 | 1h 40m | Spanish w/ English subtitles | Starring Laura Galán, Claudia Salas, Carmen Machi, José Pastor, Camille Aguilar

With the sun beating down on her rural Spanish town, Sara spends the summer avoiding the classmates who mercilessly bully her due to her weight. One day, her bullies are abducted and feared dead. When the police start asking questions, Sara is torn between helping the authorities or the stranger responsible for the disappearance of her enemies. Part coming-of-age romance, part psychological body horror, Carlota Pereda’s feature debut is a masterful mix of dark comedy, social commentary and raw suspense.

‘A social issue, a gory film, an anti-heroine from a small Spanish town – all in one. The slasher style, small-town naturalism and nods to 70s horror are quite memorable.’
★★★★
Silvia Mariscal, Little White Lies

‘Weaving together grindhouse thrills and adolescent dilemmas, Piggy has a dark humour that proves deliciously entertaining.’
★★★★
Phuong Lee, The Guardian
