Next Goal Wins12A

Directed by Taika Waititi | USA | 2023 | 1h 44m | Starring Michael Fassbender, Oscar Kightley, Kaimana, Will Arnett, Rhys Darby

After their record-breaking 31-0 loss against Australia, the American Samoan football team is determined to shake off their reputation as the world’s worst team and qualify for the 2014 World Cup. To help them achieve their dream, they hire maverick Dutch coach Thomas Rongen to inspire them towards their goal. Based on an incredible true story, Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi (JoJo Rabbit, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) returns with this humorous and heartwarming story of sporting underdogs.

Reviews

‘Waititi’s winning, winsome film is his most accessible and mainstream movie to date, Marvel aside, one that successfully mixes in funny jokes with zeitgeisty social commentary.’
★★★★
Kaleem Aftab, BBC

‘A familiar story, sure, but Taika Waititi’s funny and feel-good underdog tale is extremely easy to warm to.’
★★★★
Matt Maytum, Total Film

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
