Raised as a boy in East Berlin, Hedwig undergoes a life-changing transformation to emigrate to the United States, where she reinvents herself as an “internationally ignored,” yet fiercely talented, rock diva. Her journey unfolds through music, as John Cameron Mitchell (the film’s writer, director, and star) delivers an electrifying mix of original punk anthems and soaring ballads, woven together with music-video dreamscapes, animated sequences, and flashes of raw emotional truth.

Our screening on Tuesday 2nd September features an introduction by UPP Lead Projectionist and this season curator, Kit Finnie.

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
