Directed by Babak Jalali | USA | 2023 | 1h 32m | Starring Anaita Wali Zada, Jeremy Allen White, Gregg Turkington, Hilda Schmelling, Avis See-tho

Twenty-something Donya spends her days working at a fortune cookie factory and her nights wide awake battling insomnia. An Afghan refugee who emigrated to the US after serving as a translator for the American army, she lives in limbo between the desire to rebuild her life and an overbearing guilt she carries within. With rich monochrome photography, director Babak Jalali masterfully combines deadpan humour with heartfelt emotion in this story of a refugee finding her way in America.

Reviews

Beatrice Loayza, New York Times
