Idolised for her beauty and inspiring fashion trends, Empress Elizabeth of Austria fights to maintain her public image after her diplomatic role is reduced in the wake of her 40th birthday. She travels around Europe, visiting former lovers and old friends, seeking excitement and rebellion wherever she can. An elegant and irreverent spin on 19th-century period dramas starring an award-winning lead performance by Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread). Winner of Best Film at the London Film Festival.
Reviews
‘In many ways this is a study in anger, and it is an austere and angular picture. Krieps gives an exhilaratingly fierce, uningratiating performance.’
★★★★
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
‘Kreutzer has her own style of revisionist feminist history, and aided by Krieps’s bold and brilliant turn, it’s riveting stuff.’
★★★★
Anna Smith, Time Out

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
