A Hero12A

Directed by Asghar Farhadi | Iran | 2021 | 2h 8m | Persian w/ English subtitles | Starring Amir Jadidi, Mohsen Tanabandeh, Fereshteh Sadr Orafaie, Sarina Farhadi

After being granted two days leave from prison, a man and his wife stumble upon an abandoned bag of money. After much deliberation, they decide to return it to the authorities, but things don’t go as they hoped. Two-time Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi’s (A Separation, The Salesman) ethical drama grapples with the pitfalls of social media gossip and the slippery slopes of morality.

Reviews

‘A superb morality play that immerses us deeply in a society’s values and rituals and keeps us guessing right to its powerful final shot.’
★★★★★
Dave Calhoun, Time Out

‘What begins as funny and almost farcical, soon shifts into something much sadder and more sobering.’
★★★★
Simran Hans, The Observer
