Starship Troopers15

Directed by Paul Verhoeven | USA | 1997 | 2h 9m | Starring Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Clancy Brown, Neil Patrick Harris

In the distant future, humanity is locked in a brutal war against a race of giant alien insects. Little is known about the Bugs, except that they exist to exterminate humankind. To fight back, the Mobile Infantry launches relentless assaults on distant planets, taking the war to the enemy. Initially dismissed as flashy militaristic propaganda, Starship Troopers has since been recognised as sharp satire, and even a chilling state of the nation address. Paul Verhoeven’s all-action sci-fi thriller explores the dehumanising effects of imperialism and military fascism, wrapped in explosive action and dark humour.

Reviews

‘It is pure Verhoeven — broad, brash and ultraviolent, and all up there on the screen.’
