Rumble Fish18

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola | USA | 1983 | 1h 34m | Starring Matt Dillon, Mickey Rourke, Diane Lane, Dennis Hopper, Nicolas Cage

In a rundown industrial American town, a restless teenager grapples with rival gangs and his estranged father, all while desperately attempting to live up to the reputation of his legendary older brother. Featuring magnetic lead performances by Matt Dillon and Mickey Rourke, Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s 1975 novel is a stunning black-and-white exploration of existential teenage angst.

Reviews

‘An iconic outsider of 1980s teen cinema, Rumble Fish remains an intriguing anomaly on Coppola’s chequered CV.’
★★★★
Matt Glasby, Film4

‘A myth-infused coming-of-age story that’s directed with a grandly imaginative visual repertoire to match.’
