L’immensita12A

Directed by Emanuele Crialese | Italy | 2022 | 1h 39m | Italian w/ English subtitles | Starring Penélope Cruz, Vincenzo Amato, Luana Giuliani, Patrizio Francioni, María Chiara Goretti

In 1970’s Rome, Clara and her husband move into a new apartment along with their three children. While Clara is trapped in a lifeless marriage with an unfaithful partner, she directs her devotion towards her children, particularly her eldest, Andrea, who yearns for a transformative change. Award-winning actress Penelope Cruz shines in Emanuele Crialese’s semi-autobiographical drama, which paints a vivid portrait of adolescence, self-discovery, and challenging societal norms.

Nominated for the Golden Lion (Best Film) Award at the 2022 Venice Film Festival.

Reviews

‘Its scenes have the tingling specificity of formative memory, where peculiar, attention-snagging details somehow serve as lightning rods for the emotions crackling overhead.’
