Oscar-winning filmmaker Laura Poitras (CitizenFour) examines the life of photographer and activist Nan Goldin, best known for her intimate photography of the LGTBQ subcultures in 1980s/90s Boston and New York. After struggling with her own addiction to Oxycontin, the documentary follows Nan’s fight to hold the powerful Sackler family to account for their part in the opioid crisis currently ravaging America. An emotionally raw biography that ties Goldin’s work with her activism and personal history. Winner of the Golden Lion (Best Film) award at the 2022 Venice Film Festival.

Our screening on Saturday 11th February features an introductory talk by Uncomfortable Oxford entitled “Sacking the Sacklers: patronage and renaming in the 21st century” by Dr George Regkoukos.

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
