AparajitoU
The second part of Satyajit Ray’s famous trilogy focusses on a young boy leaving home to study in Calcutta. As he progresses from wide-eyed boy to intellectually curious teenager, we witness his progression towards adulthood as well as his complex relationship with his mother. This tenderly expressive and often heart-wrenching film won three top prizes at the Venice Film Festival, including the Golden Lion (Best Film) in 1957.
Reviews
‘Humanist film-making at its best.’

David Parkinson, Empire Magazine
‘It is done with such rare feeling and skill at pictorial imagery, and with such sympathetic understanding of Indian character on the part of Mr. Ray, that it develops a sort of hypnotism’
★★★★★
Bosley Crowther, The New York Times

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
