Videodrome18

Directed by David Cronenberg | Canada | 1983 | 1h 29m | Starring James Woods, Debbie Harry, Sonja Smits, Peter Dvorsky

The president of a trashy TV channel is desperate to attract viewers and stumbles across “Videodrome” – a hyper-violent precursor to reality TV. As he unearths the origins of the programme, he embarks on a hallucinatory journey into a world of right-wing conspiracies, sadomasochism, and bodily transformation. David Cronenberg’s dark satire on consumerism now appears incredibly prophetic in its depiction of the intersection of sex, violence, technology and media.

Reviews

‘Its dense mysteries remain more tantalizing than distancing: No other director integrates the creepy with the cerebral quite like Cronenberg.’
