This year, the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) has launched a brand-new category: Cinema of the Year (supported by Kia) and we’re throwing our hat in the ring.
Since 1998, BIFA has celebrated the very best in independent film, shining a spotlight on filmmakers who create unforgettable stories without Hollywood budgets. These are exactly the kinds of films we’ve been proud to bring to our screen here at the Ultimate Picture Palace.
Over the years, BIFA award-winning films like Pride (2014), God’s Own Country (2017), For Sama (2019), Aftersun (2022), and All Of Us Strangers (2023) have all played right here. In fact, of the 50 films nominated for Best British Independent Film during the previous four years, we have shown a whopping 47 of them!
With the launch of Cinema of the Year, BIFA is recognising the final, vital step in the journey of film: sharing it with audiences like you, in spaces where communities come together to share in the joys of cinema.
With our independent film programming, our themed seasons and events, and now as one of the UK’s only community-owned purpose-built cinemas, we’d be honoured to make the shortlist. But we can only do it with your help!
