The Lost Boys15

Directed by Joel Schumacher | USA | 1987 | 1h 37m | Starring Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Kiefer Sutherland, Dianne Wiest, Barnard Hughes

A mother and her two teenage sons relocate to a seemingly serene coastal California town. However, their illusion of tranquility is shattered when they discover that the town is overrun with biker gangs and vampires. As the elder son, Michael, begins to exhibit bizarre behaviour, it falls upon his younger brother, Sam, to rescue him from the seductive clutches of the undead. Amidst the campy theatrics and 1980s hairstyles, Joel Schumacher’s horror classic serves as a celebration of (eternal?) youth, defiantly confronting the repressive social conservatism of the Reagan era.

Reviews

‘That the film works so well is a testament to Schumacher’s pop sensibilities, his slick production design and an iconic soundtrack — Echo & the Bunnymen’s version of People Are Strange is a majestic way to begin a movie.’
