The Five Obstructions15
In 1967, Jørgen Leth made the short film The Perfect Human: a man and a woman sit in a box while a narrator asks questions about them. Decades later, Lars von Trier challenges Leth to remake it five times, imposing a new set of rules for each version, with increasingly restrictive and provocative results. What begins as an artistic exercise becomes a mischievous power game, as von Trier pushes Leth to his limits, testing his creativity and challenging his methods. Part documentary, part experiment, the film is a sharp, funny and often unsettling exploration of artistic freedom.
Screening plus Q&A with Film Curator Leo Krenzer and University of Oxford Film Studies Professor Nikolaj Lübecker.

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
