Sound of Falling18
Across the 20th century, four teenage girls each spend part of their youth in the same farmhouse. Though they live decades apart, echoes between their lives begin to emerge. Through their stories, the film traces generational change while revealing striking parallels of loneliness, growing up, and lost innocence. In her ambitious second feature, German writer-director Mascha Schilinski (Dark Blue Girl) weaves together the experiences of four generations of girls against the upheaval and violence of 20th-century Germany.
Winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival 2025.
Reviews
‘Schilinski is in such control of every frame, every cut, prop and camera move that it’s often breathtaking just to witness the emergence of this grandly interlaced tapestry of grief.’
★★★★★ Kevin Maher, The Times
‘It’s a cliché to say that a film will stay with you long after you leave the cinema. This one could haunt you to the grave.’
★★★★★ David Hughes, Time Out

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
