When he offers to drive her home to her family for the holiday, the road trip goes sideways and the pair begin to fall for each other. Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray were first paired here, four years before Double Indemnity, in a sparklingly witty romance written by Oscar-winning Preston Sturges (The Lady Eve, Sullivan’s Travels).
