Directed by Alex Ross Perry | USA | 2024 | 2h 8m | Starring Stephen Malkmus, Joe Keery, Jason Schwartzman, Tim Heidecker, Kathryn Gallagher

1990s indie rock legends Pavement reunite for a sold-out tour in 2022. As the band prepares to hit the road, a series of unexpected and surreal tributes begin to surface: an off-Broadway musical based on their songs, a museum entirely dedicated to their legacy, and a Hollywood biopic clearly aiming for awards season glory. Blending truth and fiction, director Alex Ross Perry (Listen Up Philip, Her Smell) crafts a playful, self-aware docu-drama-satire that captures the strange essence of one of America’s most unconventional rock bands.

Reviews

‘It’s a reminder that the fourth (and fifth and sixth) wall can be smashed, that the rock doc can be reinvented. And that when the message is meta for meta’s sake, why not make the medium that way, too?’
