Orlando, My Political Biography12A
Virginia Woolf’s 1928 novel Orlando serves as both a historical anchor and a hopeful compass for writer and philosopher Paul B. Preciado’s documentary. This sweeping yet intimate film provides a panoramic view of past and present trans lives. Featuring a multitude of trans and non-binary voices from today—our new ‘Orlandos’—the documentary brilliantly illustrates how life, poetry, and gender converge in the quest for truth. Winner of the Special Jury Prize and Best Documentary Award at the Berlin Film Festival 2023.
Reviews
‘A dive into the collective trans consciousness, a discussion between Orlandos across time and place, an attempt to discover new ways to understand and express ourselves.’
★★★★
Esme Holden, Little White Lies
‘It’s remarkable how Preciado weaves fact and fiction together. More artistic than political, this film gives transgender people a voice, something woefully absent from a lot of discourse.’

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
