Only Lovers Left Alive15

Directed by Jim Jarmusch | USA | 2013 | 1h 58m | Starring Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, John Hurt, Anton Yelchin

Adam and Eve, two vampires who have been lovers for centuries, reunite in Detroit after Adam develops a deep depression linked with his despair for humanity’s seemingly imminent decline. Their precarious footing is further threatened by the uninvited arrival of Eve’s carefree little sister who hasn’t yet learned to tame her wilder instincts. Jim Jarmusch’s stylish and atmospheric two-hander embodies the bohemianism of vampires in love in this wickedly cool reflection on immortality and gentrification.

This screening is part of Blood & Celluloid: Vampire Film Festival 2022. For more info and to get your festival pass for all five films, click on the “Vampire Film Festival” button below.

Reviews

‘Hilarious, bittersweet, nostalgic and philosophical. One of this amazing director’s finest achievements.’
★★★★★
David Jenkins, Little White Lies

‘Rarely has Jarmusch’s style been so inherently suited to his content. Stillness and silence, the cardinal virtues of his method, have never been so pertinent as in the lives of the undead.’
★★★★
