Newly married couple Justine and Michael throw a sumptuous party on the day of their wedding. Despite the best effort of Justine’s sister Claire, the reception becomes a fiasco, with family tensions mounting and relationships fraying. Meanwhile, astrologists locate a new planet in the solar system, one which appears to be on a collision course with Earth. Lars Von Trier’s profound and unforgettable vision of depression and destruction features an award-winning lead performance by Kirsten Dunst (Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival).

Reviews

★★★★★
Nigel Andrews, The FT

‘Dunst is exceptional, so utterly convincing in the lead role – trouble, serene, a fierce savant – that it feels like a career breakthrough.’
★★★★★
Sukhdev Sandhu, The Telegraph
