Knife+Heart18

Directed by Yann Gonzalez | France | 2018 | 1h 42m | French w/ English subtitles | Starring Vanessa Paradis, Nicolas Maury, Kate Moran, Jonathan Genet, Félix Maritaud

Set in the summer of 1979 in Paris, this stylish thriller follows Anne, a gay porn director reeling from a painful breakup. Her emotional world is already unraveling when tragedy strikes: one of her actors is brutally murdered, putting the future of her latest film at risk. Determined to finish the project, Anne presses on, unaware that the killer intends to strike again. Featuring neon-drenched cinematography and with a haunting score from M83 frontman Anthony Gonzalez, this stylish thriller presents a modern vision of erotically charged giallo horror.

Reviews

‘Variously gorgeous, ethereal, artful and tacky, both Anne’s film and Gonzalez’s are sustained by a throbbing sexual energy, aided by French electronic act M83’s twinkling, club‑inspired score.’
★★★★
Simran Hans, The Observer

‘Gnarly as it can be at times, “Knife + Heart” is above all an unabashedly queer, affectionately comedic look at the pursuit of art in the unlikeliest of places.’
Peter Debruge, Variety
