Jaws12A

Directed by Steven Spielberg | USA | 1975 | 2h 4m | Starring Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gary, Murray Hamilton

When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, Police Chief Martin Brody wants to close the beaches. However, the town’s mayor has other plans, instead opting to employ a scientist and a grizzled fisherman to help Brody catch and kill the blood-thirsty creature. Steven Spielberg laid the template for the modern summer blockbuster with this masterfully constructed thriller, complete with nerve-wracking set-pieces and a truly iconic score.

Reviews

‘A sensationally effective action picture, a scary thriller that works all the better because it’s populated with characters that have been developed into human beings we get to know and care about.’
★★★★★
Roger Ebert

‘It’s no wonder a generation of holidaymakers still thinks twice before stepping into the water.’
★★★★★
Tom Huddlestone, Time Out
