Twenty-something Donya spends her days working at a fortune cookie factory and her nights wide awake battling insomnia. An Afghan refugee who emigrated to the US after serving as a translator for the American army, she lives in limbo between the desire to rebuild her life and an overbearing guilt she carries within. With rich monochrome photography, director Babak Jalali masterfully combines deadpan humour with heartfelt emotion in this story of a refugee finding her way in America.

‘Expressionistic interludes — shadows mingling on a stairwell wall, a globe spinning at a blurred speed — capture the uncanny nature of social interactions among the displaced and disoriented.’
Beatrice Loayza, New York Times

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
