Celine and Julie Go Boating12A

Directed by Jacques Rivette | France | 1974 | 3h 14m | French w/ English subtitles | Starring Juliet Berto, Dominique Labourier, Bulle Ogier, Marie-France Pisier, Barbet Schroeder

Two young women meet by chance in a Parisian park and quickly forge a close friendship. Their bond leads them on a time-warping adventure within a mysterious mansion, where they become embroiled in a bizarre, recurring melodrama. Widely considered Jacques Rivette’s crowning achievement, this whimsical and surreal epic is a captivating example of the French New Wave at its most inventive.

Tom Dawson, BBC

‘A charming and beautifully planned drama that resolves nothing — and doesn’t need to.’
