All That Heaven AllowsU

Directed by Douglas Sirk | USA | 1955 | 1h 29m | Starring Jane Wyman, Rock Hudson, Agnes Moorehead, Conrad Nagel, Virginia Grey

In the stifling suburbia of 1950s America, a middle-class widow falls in love with her younger, free-spirited gardener. Their romance forces her to confront a painful choice: yield to the judgment of her neighbours and adult children, or risk everything to follow her heart. Filmed in sumptuous Technicolor, Douglas Sirk’s deeply moving portrait of love, class, and conformity in small-town America stands as the crowning achievement of Hollywood melodrama.
