All About My Mother15

Directed by Pedro Almodóvar | Spain | 1999 | 1h 41m | Spanish w/ English subtitles | Starring Penélope Cruz, Cecilia Roth, Marisa Paredes, Candela Peña, Antonia San Juan

When Manuela loses her teenage son Esteban in a tragic car accident, her grief propels her to Barcelona in search of his father—a man Esteban never knew. As she travels around the city, Manuela unexpectedly becomes the heart of a makeshift family, among them being a pregnant nun, a trans sex worker, and a glamorous actress. Winner of the Academy Award for Best International Feature, Pedro Almodóvar’s vivid and heartfelt film is a celebration of female resilience and a tender exploration of the meaning of motherhood.

Reviews

‘All About My Mother is one of the best films of the Spanish director, whose films present a Tennessee Williams sensibility in the visual style of a 1950s Universal-International tearjerker.’
★★★★
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

‘It weaves life and art into a rich tapestry of love, loss and compassion.’
Janet Maslin, The New York Times

Plan your visit

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
