The gloves are off this November! Get ready for a knockout season of action movie classics, from Akira Kurosawa’s epic rain-soaked samurai battles to the jaw-dropping martial arts of kung-fu king Bruce Lee.

“Fight Nights at The UPP” celebrates the powerful influence of East Asian cinema on the action genre. Every Saturday in November, we’ll host a mix of afternoon talks, workshops, screenings, and thrilling double features. As part of the BFI’s national Art of Action tour, the season includes special guest speakers, an action filmmaking masterclass, and a special event curated by young film programmers from Oxford City College.

City of Oxford College Young Programmers present: Charlie’s Angels (2000)
The captivating crime-fighting trio who are masters of disguise, espionage and martial arts are back! A kitsch, camp, and tongue-in-cheek adaptation of the 1970s American TV show, starring Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, and Drew Barrymore. Special event presented by City Of Oxford College Young Programmers.

Monday 2nd December, 8pm
Cinema Under The Stairs presents: Hard Target
The only thing that goes harder than the muscle-flexing, non-stop action of John Woo’s American film directorial debut is Jean-Claude Van Damme’s mullet. Celebrate the finale of our Fight Nights season with Oxford’s best cult cinema programmers, Cinema Under The Stairs.

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
