Jerry Lundegaard, a struggling car salesman, is deep in debt. His plan is to hire two crooks to kidnap his wife so her wealthy father will pay the ransom. It goes wrong almost immediately. A routine traffic stop leaves three people dead and brings Marge Gunderson, the heavily pregnant local police chief, onto the case. William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi and Oscar-winning Frances McDormand star in the Coen brothers’ snowbound crime story, which mixes nail-biting suspense with pitch-black comedy.
