Lionel and David first meet at the Boston Conservatory, where they bond over a shared love of American folk music. Years later, after David returns from serving in the First World War, they reunite and spend a winter traveling through the forests and islands of Maine. Together, they collect and record folk songs, hoping to preserve them for future generations.
