Under the VolcanoCert-TBC
At the foot of Mount Teide on the Spanish island of Tenerife, a Ukrainian family enjoys their final beach day, unaware their return flight to Kyiv will soon be canceled. As they wait, Russian bombs begin to fall on their homeland. Anxiously seeking news, they are among the fortunate—at least, as some might say—yet uncertain of where to go next. Meanwhile, the world around them remains unchanged: the sun shines, the sea glistens, and carefree families revel in the Canary Islands’ beauty. In his timely second feature, Damian Kocur explores the fragility of life and the thin line between safety and chaos.
This screening features an in-person introduction by Ally Pitts, host of A Russian & Soviet Movie Podcast (since 2017).
Part of Kinoteka On Tour (https://kinoteka.org.uk/), organised by the Polish Cultural Institute in London and supported by the Polish Film Institute and Klassiki Online (https://klassiki.online/).
Reviews
‘Led by outstanding performances from the central cast, Kocur has crafted an effective…feature which captures how ordinary people cope with a frightening situation.’

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
