The Raid18

Directed by Gareth Evans | Indonesia | 2011 | 1h 41m | Indonesian w/ English subtitles | Starring Iko Uwais, Ananda George, Yayan Ruhian, Ray Sahetapy, Joe Taslim

In the depths of Jakarta’s slums, an impenetrable safe house hides some of the world’s most dangerous criminals. Under the cover of pre-dawn darkness, an elite SWAT team is sent to raid the building and capture the notorious drug lord in charge. But when their mission is compromised, survival becomes their only objective. Set within the tight, maze-like corridors of a 30-story apartment block, Welsh filmmaker Gareth Edwards elevates the action genre to thrilling new levels with this relentless journey of martial arts combat and brutal, bone-crunching violence.

This screening features an introduction by martial arts and action movie expert Darren Smith (Oxford Brookes University).

This screening is part of the BFI’s national Art Of Action tour. For more information go to: https://www.bfiartofaction.co.uk/home
