Despite being filmed on a shoestring budget, Tobe Hooper’s gritty, intense, and transgressively nihilistic slasher film sparked widespread outrage upon its release, helping to pave the way for a new era of horror cinema in the 1970s. Back on the big-screen for the film’s 50th anniversary, restored in 4K for the very first time.
