Morvern Callar15

Directed by Lynne Ramsay | UK | 2002 | 1h 33m | Starring Samantha Morton, Kathleen McDermott, Linda McGuire, Paul Popplewell, Dolly Wells

A bored young Scottish woman wakes up on Christmas morning to find her boyfriend dead. Instead of calling for help, she puts her name on his unpublished manuscript and sends it to a publisher before clearing his bank account to pay for a hedonistic holiday in Ibiza. After the triumph of her debut Ratcatcher, filmmaker Lynne Ramsay solidified her status as one of Britain’s greatest modern filmmakers with this intoxicating study of grief and transformation, featuring Samantha Morton in a leading role.

Reviews

‘Morton’s ethereal looks make her a perfect canvas for Ramsay, but there’s an enigmatic energy behind her wide-eyed expression that’s intriguing way beyond the end of the film.’
