The Afterlight + Director Q&APG

Directed by Charlie Shackleton | UK | 2021 | 1h 22m

A collection of cinematic fragments spanning hundreds of international films brining together a diverse ensemble of actors who share one common trait: they are no longer alive. Crafted into a captivating and otherworldly montage, Charlie Shackleton’s experimental film essay exists as a sole 35mm film print, progressively fading with each screening. Eventually it will disappear entirely.

One-off screening followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, Charlie Shackleton.

Reviews

‘“More stars than there are in heaven,” MGM boasted in its heyday. That motto could apply to Charlie Shackleton’s collage film, which places hundreds of screen presences in an eerie celluloid version of the beyond.’
Jonathan Romney, BFI Sight and Sound Magazine
