Dogville15

Directed by Lars von Trier | 2003 | 2h 58m | Starring Nicole Kidman, Paul Bettany, Lauren Bacall, Patricia Clarkson, John Hurt, Udo Kier

In Depression-era America, a fugitive named Grace arrives at a small town in the Rocky Mountains while on the run from the mob. Offering to work in exchange for asylum, Grace is welcomed in by the locals. But as they come to expect more favours from her, Grace hides a dangerous secret from them. Filmed on a barren soundstage, Lars Von Trier presents a nightmarish vision of American society as well as  the darker impulses of human nature.

Reviews

‘Bold stylistic decisions reinforce the themes of the narrative, while a strong story and convincing performances prove equal to the task of carrying such an extended running time.’
