Frida15

Directed by Julie Taymor | Mexico/USA | 2h 3m | 2h 3m | Starring Salma Hayek, Alfred Molina, Geoffrey Rush, Diego Luna, Mía Maestro

The true story of Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera, larger-than-life painters who became two of the most acclaimed artists in Mexican history. A visually striking film tracing Frida’s lifelong, tempestuous relationship with her husband, along with her affairs with Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky and various women. A passionate biopic of a forward-thinking artist and political figure, which earned an Oscar nomination for Salma Hayek.

Reviews

‘Sometimes we feel as if the film careens from one colorful event to another without respite, but sometimes it must have seemed to Frida Kahlo as if her life did, too.’
★★★★
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

‘Bringing a fiery warmth and accessibility to the central role, [Hayek] proves a good match for the artist as she depicts Kahlo’s indomitable will to live, love and paint.’
Deborah Young, Variety
