Tori And Lokita15

Directed by Jean-Pierre Dardenne & Luc Dardenne | Belgium/France | 2022 | 1h 29m | French w/ English subtitles | Starring Pablo Schils, Joely Mbundu, Alban Ukaj, Charlotte De Bruyne, Tijmen Govaerts

In modern day Belgium, two youngsters who have travelled alone from Africa must convince the government that they are siblings in order to obtain residence papers. Wary of the authorities and indebted to the couple who smuggled them into the country, the pair desperately try to make ends meet. An emotional and humanistic gem from the award-winning Dardenne brothers (Two Days One Night, The Kid With The Bike) featuring beautiful performances by its two non-professional leads.

Reviews

‘Schils and Mbundu keep the film’s feet firmly on the ground, delivering a hefty emotional punch built in equal measure on empathy, admiration and anguish.’
★★★★
Mark Kermode, The Observer

‘Another beautifully observed drama that occasionally grips like a vice. Humane and heart-breaking.’
★★★★
Phil Concannon, Little White Lies
