Pather PanchaliU
With the release of Satyajit Ray’s debut in 1955, an eloquent and hugely important new cinematic voice was born. Inspired by the neorealist films of Italy, Ray took to the streets with an inexperienced crew and an untested cast and created a classic of Indian cinema. The film follows an impoverished priest, who dreams of a better life for himself and his family, leaving his rural Bengal village in search of work.
Reviews
‘It’s not just the film’s enduring status as a landmark of world cinema that makes it essential viewing. It remains a miracle of lyrical realism…A masterpiece, inarguably.’

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
