UPP Membership Screening Days – May 2022

Apr 27, 2022 | News

Thursday 5th May & Wednesday 11th May

As part of our “Lights, Community, Action!” share offer campaign to make the Ultimate Picture Palace a community-owned cinema (more information on that here: uppcinema.com/owntheupp) we wanted to treat our loyal Annual Membership and 15-25 Five Pound Film Pass holders. Earlier this month, we sent around a survey to give members the chance to choose the films we show on two dates in May, with specially discounted ticket prices for those who have signed up. And the results are in!

On Thursday 5th May, Annual Membership holders voted for us to show the following films:

Thursday 5th May
3.15pm – The Apartment – BOOK TICKETS
6pm – Rear Window – BOOK TICKETS
8.45pm – Mulholland Drive – BOOK TICKETS

Join us a 3.15pm for a matinee performance of Bill Wilder’s perfect bittersweet rom-com The Apartment, starring Jack Lemon and Shirley MacLaine as office colleagues and trepidatious lovers. Our 6pm early evening screening features James Stewart as a hapless vouyer is Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece of suspense, Rear Window. And finally, at 8.45pm, venture down the sinister rabbit hole of the Hollywood dream factory with David Lynch’s extraordinary 2001 release Mulholland Drive.

UPP Annual Membership holders (Adult, Senior, Student and Claimant) can purchase tickets to all these screenings for the discounted price of £5 each.

Wednesday 11th May
6.15pm – Portrait of a Lady on Fire – BOOK TICKETS
9pm – La Haine – BOOK TICKETS

And on Wednesday 11th May, we gave holders of our 15-25 Five Pound Film Passes the chance to have their say on what we show and voters opted for a double-bill of modern French classics. At 6.15pm, one of our favourite releases of recent years makes its return to the UPP, Celine Sciamma’s 18th-century feminist romance Portrait of a Lady of Fire. Then, at 9pm, the recent re-issue of Mathieu Kassovitz’s scintillatingly stylish political thriller La Haine is back on our screen and as bold as ever.

Holders of our 15-25 Five Pound FIlm Pass can purchase tickets to these two screenings for the discounted price of £3 each.

Non-members can purchase tickets to all of these screenings at our regular prices. If you’re interested in becoming a UPP Annual Member or a Five Pound Film Pass member, please visit: uppcinema.com/become-a-member

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
