The Electrical Life of Louis Wain12A

Directed by Will Sharpe | UK | 2021 | 1h 51m | Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Claire Foy, Andrea Riseborough, Toby Jones

The extraordinary true story of Victorian-era painter Louis Wain, whose psychedelic anthropomorphised depiction of cats made him a renowned British artist. Benedict Cumberbatch gives an exquisite lead performance in his imaginative biopic focussing on Wain’s relationship with his wife, his family, and – of course – his cats.

Reviews

‘An affable biopic about a great but troubled man, with plenty of artistic spirit of its own.’
★★★★
Hanna Flint, Time Out

‘Unexpectedly charming and sweet despite the inevitable dark routes taken, the film is an affecting watch, and Olivia Colman’s cheeky narration is an added treat’
★★★★
