Last Night in Soho18

Directed by Edgar Wright | UK | 2021 | 1h 57m | Starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin McKenzie, Matt Smith, Terence Stamp, Diana Rigg.

An aspiring London fashion designer is mysteriously able to travel back sixty years where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it seems, and the glamour of the past begins to splinter into something darker. Edgar Wright’s genre and time-hopping thriller is an unsettling homage to British cinema from the Swinging Sixties and the Italian horror genre ‘Giallo’.

Reviews

‘Wright is both a gifted stylist and master technician, and Soho moves as smoothly as a Maglev train, gliding on an invisible cushion of its own meticulous craft.’
★★★★★
Robbie Collin, The Telegraph

‘It all makes for an immersive evocation of time and place, and a more sober, if still stylish, filmmaking flex from Wright. Like its eerie Soho back alleys, you’re never sure what’s around the next corner.’
★★★★
Phil De Semlyen, Time Out
