The Flop House presents: Spice WorldPG

Directed by Bob Spiers | UK | 1997 | 1h 32m | Starring Mel B, Emma Bunton, Melanie C, Geri Horner, Victoria Beckham

A low-point of Britpop’s bloated commercial extravagance? Or a deranged, postmodern masterpiece of 1990s UK pop culture? Join the hosts of film podcast The Flop House as we reassess Bob Spiers’ whacky Spice Girls mockumentary which has gone down in history for all the wrong reasons.

This screening is part of The Saint Audio Podcast Festival 2024 and will be introduced by The Flop House hosts Elliott Kalan, Dan McCoy, and Stuart Wellington.

Reviews

‘Spiers’ pseudo-documentary bubble-and-squeak allows the girls to dress up, dress down, change identities, ride around in a Union Jack bus, rub shoulders with a large cameo cast, and indulge in vacuous banter. Help!’
Derek Adams, Time Out

The Flop House is a bimonthly podcast devoted to the worst in recent film. Your hosts (former Daily Show writers Elliott Kalan and Dan McCoy along with their friend Stuart Wellington) watch a film that was a financial or critical failure before each episode, and then engage in an unscripted, slightly inebriated discussion, focusing on the movie’s shortcomings and occasional delights. The podcast, found on the Maximum Fun Podcast Network, has been running strong for over twelve years now and is making its first and only (so far) international excursion to The Saint Audio Podcast Festival here in Oxford.

The Saint Audio Podcast Festival is the UK’s sanctuary for live podcast recordings from 24 to 16 May 2024. From QED Comedy Lab, the creative team behind the Oxford Comedy Festival, comes a new festival celebrating some of the best podcasts from the US and UK for one fun weekend in the heart of Oxford. With topics from movies to dinosaurs, mental health to folklore, the supernatural to 90s pop culture, and more we have something for everyone. find out more and get your tickets at SaintAudioPodcastFestival.com.

Plan your visit

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
