Directed by Celine Song | USA | 2025 | 1h 57m | Starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, John Magaro, Zoe Winters

Young New York matchmaker Lucy is caught between two very different men: Harry, a wealthy and charming bachelor, and John, her down-to-earth ex. Following her Oscar-nominated debut Past Lives, director Celine Song returns with a thoughtful and bittersweet deconstruction of the classic romantic comedy, starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans.

Reviews

‘Materialists is exquisitely made, character-driven and talky, with some glittering dialogue. It’s the kind of idiosyncratic film a director sometimes gets to do after a great success and Song makes the most of it.’
★★★★★
Caryn James, BBC

‘A different beast to Past Lives, this is a razor-sharp look at the competitive marketplace of dating: both rigorously honest and idealistically romantic.’
★★★★
John Nugent, Empire Magazine
