After Hours15

Directed by Martin Scorsese | USA | 1985 | 1h 37m | Starring Griffin Dunne, Rosanna Arquette, Catherine O’Hara, John Heard, Will Patton

When an uptight office workers last $20 bill flies out the cab window, he finds himself stuck in SoHo, Manhattan, long after closing time. Desperate to get back home, he embarks on a hilarious and nightmarish odyssey through the streets of New York. Scorsese followed up his early 1980s classics The King of Comedy and Raging Bull with this frantic, darkly comic, and underrated screwball comedy.

After Hours will be preceded by a special presentation of Lorenza Mazzetti’s short film K (1953).

Reviews

‘A caffeinated black comedy with an emphasis on speed. With a small crew and a tight shooting schedule, Scorsese transformed limited means into a staccato burst of creative energy.’
★★★★★
Scott Tobias, The AV Club

‘After Hours is a brilliant film that is so original, so particular, that we are uncertain from moment to moment exactly how to respond to it. The style of the film creates, in us, the same feeling that the events in the film create in the hero.’
★★★★
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
