Our campaign to become a community-owned cinema has entered its final week, and there’s still time for you to buy community shares and become a co-owner of the Ultimate Picture Palace.

Last week was an extraordinary week as we smashed through not one but two of our three fundraising targets. At the beginning of the week, the campaign looked to be edging ever closer to the minimum target of £280,575. Reaching this would mean that, at the very least, the cinema would become a community-owned business. By Wednesday 15th June the campaign hit this target, and, rather wonderfully, by Thursday 16th June the optimum target of £312,575 had also been reached. We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has bought shares and helped us reach this important milestone.

With the campaign set to end on Friday 1st July, there is only one week to go and all eyes are focussed on hitting our maximum target of £366,575 to make the UPP the best it’s ever been.

“We are so incredibly grateful and overjoyed by all the support we have had so far. It feels very special to be able to now say that the UPP will become a community cinema. There’s still time for people to invest. Our focus is now firmly on seeing if we can raise enough money to make improvements to the cinema so we can provide the best cinema going experience we have ever been able to offer.” Micaela Tuckwell, Executive Director

“Target. Maximum firepower!”

If we hit our maximum target of £366,575 we will be able to:

  • improve the gradient of our seating so that everyone has a better view of the screen
  • improve access to our historic projection room to allow for public visits (including film students and school groups)
  • upgrade our AV system so we can host many more special guest Q&As and other live performances

So our main message to everyone right now is, if you haven’t invested yet, there is still time to join us and own your own piece the UPP!

Head to www.uppcinema.com/owntheupp and buy your shares, or indeed, if you have already invested and would now like to help make these improvements a reality, you can increase your initial investment and help us reach our top target.

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
