Asylum Welcome presents: Dreamers15

Directed by Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor | UK | 2025 | 1h 19m | Starring Aiysha Hart, Ronke Adekoluejo, Damola Adelaja, Ann Akinjirin, Kemi Adekoya

After fleeing persecution in Nigeria, Isio is sent to Hatchworth Removal Centre while she waits for a decision on her asylum claim. Determined to do everything “by the book,” she believes that following the rules is her best chance of staying safe, even when her confident and outspoken roommate, Farah, urges her to think differently. Life in detention is harsh and uncertain, but Farah’s friendship brings warmth and colour to Isio’s world. As their connection deepens into a romantic relationship, Isio faces a difficult choice: continue trusting a system that may fail her, or join Farah in a risky plan that could change everything. Directed by acclaimed producer Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor, this visually striking and emotionally powerful debut tells a tender story of resistance, showing how love can survive even in the most challenging circumstances.

This screening is presented in partnership with Asylum Welcome (https://www.asylum-welcome.org/), who will introduce the film.

Reviews

‘Thanks to subtle, considered performances, a finely milled script, inventive craftsmanship and a deep sense of empathy for the precarious lives of refugees, it packs a considerable wallop.’
★★★★
Leslie Felperin, The Guardian

‘A bold and tender story well told, and elevated by its personal nature. This is a strong debut from Gharoro-Akpojotor — she’s one to watch.’
★★★★
Amon Warmann, Empire Magazine
