Tokyo Story Rated U

Tokyo Story

Dir. Yasujirō Ozu. Japan, 1953. 2h 16m. Japanese/English subs. Starring Setsuko Hara, Chishû Ryû, Chieko Higashiyama, Sô Yamamura, Kyôko Kagawa.

An ageing couple journey to bustling postwar Tokyo to visit their two adult children. Too busy to entertain their parents, they send them off to a health spa where it falls to Noriko, the widow of the couple’s younger son, to keep her in-laws company. The final part of Ozu’s loosely connected “Noriko Trilogy” is a quietly tragic tale of the gulf between generations and is often hailed as one of the greatest films ever made.
